  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
My water heater is on a double breaker Does this mean it’s 240 volts

As built, that 1981 53MY will would have had several 240v loads: Water heater, battery charger, washer/dryer, stove/oven, and 3 of the 4 air conditioner units.

on my 72 58yf water heater is on a double breaker but it is 110 volt. on my boat all 110 volt are on double breakers, the hot and neutral are both hooked to the breaker

In 1972 that was the case, By 1981, the double pole breakers were all 240v.

sky, i know it changed at some point, i posted that so anybody else reading this thread would not think that just because it was a 2 pole breaker that is was 220 v

40, 50 years? Don’t ASSume. Grab your meter and test. Who knows what’s been done on all these years

@bigbill
Just out of curiosity, do you have a reverse polarity indicator? Don't know when this standard started but if a vessel had a reverse polarity indicator it could have single pole breakers. Without a reverse polarity indicator, the vessel needs to have double pole breakers. This is for 120 v systems only.

My 1972 has double pole 110 and a polarity indicator!

My 76 does as well, double pole 110v and polarity indicators

Polarity indicator and double pole is belt and suspenders! Hatteras going the extra yard.
