Sea trial went well today, good cold start, 1675 rpms = 17 knots (has big tower) @155* temp. Full throttle netted 2225 rpms so i'm a little short but no smoke and she didn't build heat. 700 gallons on board plus 4 people so medium load.
Q, boat has a test station next to the stairs for fuel and water tank levels. Never seen this before. You have to give a big button 1 press after selecting the tank you want to read. Reads in inches/pressure? Owner told me to multiply main tank reading by 38 and forward tank by 10?
Main tank pressure measured 16* so 16x38 = 608 gallons and forward tank was 10* so 10x10 = 100 gallons?

Re: Any mid 80's 52C owners on the site?
Hi 17knts @ 1675 RPM sound good. No vibrations? Upon shifting, no delays to engage on shifts? My is 1986 with convington 8v92ti 675hp. We have it since new. The 52C is a great boat. I burn 40 gal/hr , both engines 1800rpm. and 700rpm both engines running 1 gal/hr. I installed a bow thruster, my best investment. The flying bridge space is huge.
Good luck.

My buddy’s mikelson has that air system for tank levels. Very accurate. A little bit of a pain. Are there regular gauges too?

You verify the hp rating with any onboard documentation? The lower hp boats pre 87-88 would run a solid 20kts at 2100rpm. You won’t make full rpm at that fuel loading. Nor should you want to be proped to do so because you’ll sacrifice performance at lighter fuel loadings. I ran one of the early 52’s fishing offshore overnight charters back in the 80’s IMHO one of the best all around offshore fishing boats Hatt made. More stable drifting for swords or deep dropping than the older designs. The only thing I never liked was the fish box was below the waterline and didn’t have a way to drain. If it was full of blood guts and melted ice you needed a crane to get it out of the deck.
I believe the later 735hp boats would cruise 24 top 26 but I never ran one."DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU READ OR HEAR AND ONLY HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE" - BEN FRANKLIN

Re: Any mid 80's 52C owners on the site?
No hp doc on the boat. Shifting appeared to be very smooth; its has mather's microcommanders. Very smooth i felt no vibrations on the bridge. Owner drove it and even with engine room hatch open it was much quieter than i expected. It was swimming pool flat out in the ocean. We made a quick 180* and ran parallel to our wake, boat just ignored it and mowed it down.

The biggest shortcoming of the 52C is that its 8 feet too short! .
The Hart tank tenders are nice and about the most accurate of reliable of any gauges. You should have factory gauges on the top of all of your tanks which are usually under hatches in the cockpit or interior. Never been on a 52 but all other Hatts of 70's and 80's vintages that I have been on have them.1978 60C "Reel Action" Hull number 4 (304), 1986 36 Sedan "El Dorado" Hull Number 24 (324)

Re: Any mid 80's 52C owners on the site?
Okay so after a week hanging out we're figuring out a few things. Yes I have the hart tank tender. I'm questioning the hp rating. I found the engine tag it had been removed from the engine and was in the owners binder. It list 9215 injectors. If that's true then we are quite a bit light on the hp rating. Our wide open was only 22-23 kts so it makes sense. More detective work is needed.
