What a difference ! Were you fighting the steering wheel or just low on fluid ?

    Pascal,

Congratulations on a job well done, and thanks for documenting it along the way. When the day comes for my refit, I will use your experience as reference points for what to look and look out for.

    Thanks,
    R

Those Cummins didn't sound like they where breathing hard. Will be interesting to see what happens as more power is applied. That thing might jump out of the water. Also that's incredible the work was done in just 5 months.

First time she planes in almost 50 years. Didn't push to WOT but did 17kts on for a couple of minutes at 2250 (engines are rated 2600)

Have a few things to finalize and tweak... will do a proper sea trial with the mechanic in a couple of weeks
Congrats, but I just have to ask. Would your boat not plane with the old engines when you first bought it?

    Re: She planes!!

Top speed with the old naturals was just under 15kts. On the pins at 2300.... the new 54" trim tabs help a lot too

There is still some air in the steering we need to bleed so yes I was constantly steering. About a full turn worth of air...

Stabs aren't connected yet. But I n not worried about the 6 sq ft fines doing the job ...

There is just so much left to do... the exhaust work alone (8" vs 6") took a lot of cutting and disassembly in the master and head... trying to decide how much do I keep and how much inreplace. Thinking I could probably remove close to a thousand pound of weight in some of the cabinetry and floor by using cored material. The bed needs to be raised 1" because of the new muffler. So I may just gut it all and start clean. Removing the old dirty plywood floor will also eliminate that old smell :

One of the priority is to reinstall one of the chillers we had to remove to repair the aft port ER bulkhead that had been pushed 3" during Irma.

Also at the top of the list is redoing the railing and weather boards. Since the port side was torn out in the storm I m going to redo the whole thing using coosa with glass supports. Lewis marine (Maine) has a line of fiberglass extrusions which seems perfect for support and stiffening. Comes in many shapes and sizes, incl square and L shapes

Very impressive outcome. Thanks for bringing an old boat up to speed in more ways than one.
