Don't know who's boat it is but the Altamaha is one of two areas in Georgia famous for long runs in the ICW which seem to go out into the Atlantic before cutting back in. Boaters often get confused or want to chance cutting across as it's a broad area and they think that they must have missed a marker and shouldn't be headed out to sea.

I think I know the boat. It is a 60MY and it is in my marina here in Michigan now. I believe the grounding occurred about 2 1/2 years ago. The owner/captain has told me the story of this grounding. He described the grounding as if the stabilizer acted as a kick stand. The circumstances are unique and his story convinces me that almost anyone, even someone with as much experience and training as this owner, can run aground. If you'd like more details, send me a PM. I'm not sure that I would want my name or boat's name posted in association with such an event.

Never been hard aground (knock on wood), but I HAVE done some serious sandblast polishing of props !!
The props glistened like they were 18kt gold !!

There are only 2 types of Captain. Those that have run aground and those that will. That wasn't my boat but I will freely admit that I belong to the former group and not the latter.

If you haven't looked at least a little like this, you haven't been very many places. I have been LOTS of places....and hope to go to more!

When we went up the East Coast, we stayed totally out of the ICW in Georgia, due to shallow spots from years of neglect by Georgia. The area is rife with groundings. We just went outside in the Atlantic and enjoyed the day.

I've been stuck in the mud, never seriously,on the ICW a time or two and each time I was thankful it wasn't on the rocks back home!

You guys are too critcial of that poor chap. I think he is probably just draining out his bilge and changing garboard drain plugs. I'm sure it was intentional - just good maintenance? Maybe touching up the 'ole boot strip?
