Re: Ok, Detroit Diesel Boat Engines (promise)
Comments from diesel post on YouTube,
"The "N" designation for their non-turbo engines actually refers to the needle-type injectors. Later N series engines, as well as some turbo units, used "C" code injectors ("C" meaning "clean" tips). "
Also,
"Use of a Roots blower on a 2-stroke diesel for scavenging purposes is considered to be naturally aspirated. When you add boost such as with the turbo, then you're using forced induction. "
"ok then detroit should omit the "N" designation from their non-turbo 53, 71 and 92 series engines. From what I understand you can't run a detroit without a blower. the blower is there to feed air into the engine as it only has exhaust valves and no intake valves like what a 4 stroke diesel would have."
"Because both the Series 71 and 92 have the same piston stroke length of 5", but the Series 92 is distinguished from the Series 71 by its larger 4.84" cylinder bore. "

Re: Ok, Detroit Diesel Boat Engines (promise)
Happened on this marine 4-51 (pre-cursor to 4-53's, etc) from a wooden boat. Runs and sounds nice! "DD's sound good, clap-clap, like a good running diesel should!"
