    Re: Any pilots?

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Graduate. Showed up at Riddle with Instrument, went all the way through to ATP while there. After graduation I flew professionally for a couple of years, but the aviation market was terrible. Fortunately, I studied Engineering while at Riddle, so I use the degree to make a living now.

One bit of advice, have a back up plan to aviation. A lot of my class mates studied "Aerospace Science" while at ERAU. Most of those guys had a pretty tough time finding any kind of reasonable employment outside the aviation industry. A few became dispatchers, others worked as Air Traffic Controllers, ETC....

If I had to estimate, less than 15% of us who were in flight training at ERAU in the early to mid 90'sactually fly for a living. Hell my best friend in college sells insurance for a living now!

    Re: Any pilots?

I know this thread is old but curious how your son's (RSSMITH) career is going. No better time to become an airline pilot then right now!!

    Re: Any pilots?

Personally I think this pilot shortage is a myth created by the flight training companies like Flight Safety to sucker in students. My son found an anti military attitude in the airline industry because most there now came up flying RJ’s and commuters. The attitude is military pilots got put into big iron without years of grinding out hours for low pay flying lousy routes.
He’s a 76 captain for a cargo company flying mostly smiley boxes. He does do a lot of troop transport also to the Mideast Africa and Diego Garcia.
