Anyone have any good fuel consumption data on 8v92's at about 1200 RPM? Planning some long Island "cruises" this summer. I know at 1950 and 17 or 18 knots I do approx 52 gals an hour with genny. Did the Tortugas at 10 knots at about 1200 RPM last summer, but also made some "planning" legs....but I thought I was at about 20 gals an hour with genny. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM

Re: 8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM
I think the 20 is close. I have 650 HP 8v92s. I ran 1300 mi on 1 engine at 1200 rpm. fuel burn was 7 gph generator included.

20 is on the nose.

Re: 8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM
Interesting. 20gph at hull speed for 8V92's is alot more than the average 12gph at hull speed for 8V71ti's. I guess the extra displacement (vessel weight and cubic inches) makes more difference than you would think.

i dont' see how (2 x 7) -1 = 20 ???
shoudl be more like 13 gph. i don't think the large engines will burn 70% more producing the same HP needed to push a similar hull at the same speed.Pascal

Re: 8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM
I guess I should have added....48 Cnv.....53,000 to 55,000 #'s loaded for the islands.....I won't be cutting it close, and I'll factor the 20 GPH. Thx.

Re: 8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM
Maybe this will help http://www.hatterasowners.com/Brochu...53EDA-0083.htm page 5.
Those figures are from a "Boating Magazine" test off this site's archives, but there seemed to be some ambiguity in that article about which engine package they tested. Either that or my eyesight is a little off.
The power package was 8V71's (I think ), but it might be of some help to you.1974 58TC "Freebird", 1965 41DC "Nancy Cay", For Sale - Click HERE for info - sosectn@aol.com

Re: 8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM
Interesting article - I was surprised at a couple things - the WOT speed of over 20K, and the fact that at 18+ knots the fuel burn was less than double what it was at 9 knots. That's not bad at all!
I also saw what I learned the hard way in our 53 on it's delivery trip...At 1700 RPM you are at the WORST performance setting for the boat. I didn't know this back then and ran from Cape May to NYC at 1700 RPM, plowing through the water and burning large amounts of fuel. Shoulda just planed 'er and gotten considerably more speed and burned LESS fuel. Oh well, that's how we learn - I'm smarter now (at least on that particular issue).

Re: 8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM
3 weeks ago I ran 82 miles to an island on my 48 conv and consumption was 345 gal at 2000 rpm. 17 - 18 knots, full water and food and 6 persons on board

Re: 8V92 Fuel consumption at ~1200 RPM
Well frankly I'm confused.
According to the fuel burn on that 53ED test, it could have done that 82 mile trip at the same speed and burned about half that much fuel. How is it possible that a bigger, heavier boat could do that? (Or am I doing the math wrong? I suck at math).
