Hi, my name is Chris and my 41’ foot Hatteras was taken out by hurricane Milton. This boat has very sentimental value to me so I’m thinking about re-doing the whole entire boat even though I know I will never get my money out of it. I may end up just buying another boat, but I figured I would at least explore the option of redoing it. O have the port Engine pickled and I couldn’t free up the starboard. I have 8v53 I need to rebuild it or find a replacement. I would consider a repower if I could find some Cummings or other engines that aren’t going to break the bank does anybody have any suggestions besides telling me to junk it? 😂

First, my sympathy on the damage to your boat. You are faced with a huge task to rebuilt your boat and restore her to functionality- lots of time and lots of money. You might consider trying to find a similar boat and bringing as many usable items as you can from your old boat to the 'new' one.
As far as a repower goes, the B and C series Cummins diesels, available on the reman program, would be your best bet. At least one forum member, I believe, owns a similar boat to yours, with Cummins C diesels, IIRC.
Good luck with all this, whatever you decide to do.
8v53s are very old tech, although they were good engines in their day. I think I would use the opportunity to move to modern 4 stroke diesels, whatever boat you choose to put them in.
