    1981 81 Hatteras $499,000

On my quest for my next Hatteras I came upon this option. I boarded her yesterday. The interior was nicely redone in Art Deco if you like that style. Me, not so much. The electronics were all original, a little wood rot on the gunwales near the bow, water in the bilges and 3 engines. I'm used to 12V71s pushing a big boat. This boat was originally a 61. Years ago they stretched her 20 feet and added a 6 cylinder Detroit that powers the jet drive and the hydraulic bow thrusters. It can only move at 4kts with the jet drive and the bow thrusters apparently don't work very well. It's like nothing I've ever seen. If you ever visit the San Francisco area it's worth checking out. We are going to pass on this one.

Agree; unusual but not up to the standard of Wet Ever. (You were in town and didn't stop by? )

That’s a horrible listing. I would have to question a LOT of things about a 20’ extension, and the price is unrealistic.

Had an out of country client have me looking at Hatt 70’s in Florida and Texas a few weeks ago, and it’s slim pickings. Boarded a BEAUTIFUL 70CY in Jacksonville, but it turned out to have a termite issue.

Saw a few terrible/overpriced examples as well. The market could get interesting VERY soon.

Ron, try moving your search to southern Ca. Big boat prices here are dropping quickly due to the lack of big slips. A friend just found a 60 foot Marquis that just had a $130,000 price drop. We just sold a 60 foot yacht fish that we had 5 offers on that all failed due to the buyers not being able to find a slip. Finally sold because the broker had a friend at a marina that was able to jump over a couple of people on the waiting list to get a slip.

Forgot to mention that slip situation is pretty much from San Diego to LA except for Newport Beach where there are slips available from $100 to $120 per foot per month

The PNW is no better for big slips. I lucked out two months ago and moved up to a boathouse after 5 years as number one on our yacht club wait list. My old slip was taken by a club friend in a day, paying for my last month on the lease. Lots of people were happy to get me off the top spot too. Time Out West is already cleaner than its been in the 7 years I've been caretaking her.

    Sorry for the sideways pic...

So this is basically a 671 get-home and hydraulics engine. Would love to see in action and understand why they went to all the effort.

    Re: 1981 81 Hatteras $499,000

Me too! Apparently the original owner did it decades ago. The broker told me the jet drive was originally designed for a 35 foot boat. No idea why the owner at the time thought it was a good idea. This jet drive engine is directly behind the Captain's Cabin along with the spare 4kw generator. I can only imagine how loud the noise would be with the jet drive and the gennie going at the same time. It is by far one of the most interesting Hatteras's refits I've ever seen.
