Sanlorenzo yacht "Love Bug" sunk in Rhode River, MD

Noted to be taking on water, captain ran it into shallow water (est 10ft), now partly capsized, evidently salvage plan in process.

No word yet on why yacht flooded. Flooding preceded captain intentionally running it into shallow water.

A boat that size would have at least one emergency pump if not two. Usually a 240v pump and a hydraulic powered pump. Problem is that it takes time to get either going as you have to get in a possibly flooding ER and open valves on their manifold.

A friend of mine said that he heard that the captain thought he had run into a detached piece of a concrete dock, that was floating in the bay. Perhaps that's what holed the boat.

Another one in Greece today, 152 footer only 10’years old. Supposedly a garage door was left open

Note to self: time to test both the hydraulic and 240v emergency pumps at the office this week… I usually just turn them off for a couple of seconds but this time we re going to fill the ER bilge with fresh and test them for real.

Crazy. I wonder what the story is on that one.

On our 34 all water flowes forward and is pumped by the forward bilge pump. With no shower I drilled 1" holes in the pan to make the shower pump a backup. The aft pump will only ever see water on plane. So to test I turn power off to main bilge and flood forward compartment to verify "shower" pump works as planned. For the aft I plug up the forward drain into ER and flood aft seaction. After all is verified we pump down all with drainlines open.

Only valid test is a real world test. I call it the WTF???? test.

Just know that if bilge water leaves a sheen and you get caught it gets ugly.
