In that era, I think the hull ID number was on a little bronze plate, about 2x3 inches, secured to the transom by four screws. I suspect many of them have fallen off by now and the ocean floor may be carpeted with them. When I got my (1971) Hatteras convertible, the little hull ID plate was still on the transom. I relocated it to the interior woodwork and as of a few days ago, it was still there. I don't know if Sam's has any of those little plates. Later Hatteras yachts had the hull ID number stamped into the transom, a much better way of doing it.

If you look through the staterooms of your Hatteras, and pull the drawers out of the furniture, you may find that the boat's hull number is written in ink on the inside of some of the drawers- looking inside of the furniture or stateroom fitments may help you out on finding the hull number. Good luck.

Jim, That's not a Hull ID Number. HIN numbers were started in 1972 by government mandate. Before that there is not one. You have a factory build number, but no Hull Identification number.

You're right, Sky. 36C-391 is the factory build #. Sorry.

1970 "model year" builds would likely have been commenced in 1969. His USCG Doc probably say 1969 as the year built.
