The admiral and I are starting to plan a trip to the outer banks of NC. Kind of an early pre-retirement trip for her. Thinking about moving the boat from Grand Haven Michigan to NC. We want to look at marinas for our possible destination. I’m hoping for any recommendations for a mostly quiet marina with yacht repair as well as close by tiki bars, restaurants and fishing.

Re: Outer Banks
You might first want to ‘fly over’ the area via Google Earth. Zoom in when you see something of interest. Sounds like, what you are seeking is further down the coast on Hilton Head. The last time I was on the Outer Banks, I could had sworn that the mosquito was the State Bird.

Re: Outer Banks
I'm more familiar with the OBX from the VB area down to Hatteras Island, but I think you want to be south of there, or at least inland and not on the OBX itself. Maybe one of our members with more experience in the coastal area of NC further south can comment.

Re: Outer Banks
We spent several weeks cruising this area a few years ago. It is a beautiful place to spend some time. We did not need a boatyard so can't recommend. The Outer Banks seem a little exposed for storage given hurricanes. I would suggest picking a well known inland yard, making a winter reservation there sight unseen based on other's recommendations, and cruising the area to see how you like it. Then you can look into a permanent home. I would guess a little chilly in winter compared to farther south but rates should be less. But great for nine months of the year. Much history and things to do. Really turned out to be one of the most enjoyable areas we have found. I think you would like it.

Re: Outer Banks
I thank you all for your comments and replies. After thinking it through a little more clearly, I believe Charleston to Savannah is a bit more what we were looking for. Thanks again
