    Cummins aftercoolers

A few years ago, I had the aftercoolers for my Cummins 370B engines cleaned and serviced. Cummins advises every 3 years on this, might be a little longer in fresh water. I think the cost then was about $600, but not sure.

Just had it done again, it's been 3 years, and cost was $1900 for two aftercoolers. Bit of an increase, which they blame on various things...

Has anyone done this themselves? I'm thinking about 3 years from now, and whether I can do them myself. Suggestions welcome.

    Re: Cummins aftercoolers

We recommend every 2 years here. Also the rest of the cooling system should be done at the same time.

With 2 engines and a full proper service including pumps, heat exchangers, coolant hoses and clamps inspection or replacement, all pipe and fitting sealsnor gaskets, clean and repaint hard parts, oil changes, flush and fill with coolant and leak test is about 60 man hours work.

    Re: Cummins aftercoolers

I have done mine every 3 years since 2006 so its 6 times now. Its easy good job to do over the winter. I can do them in about 6-8 hrs including painting them so about $200 @ hr not to Bad for a change.
