Battery bank location is not favorable.

I'm looking at one of my battery banks, it's down in the generator room on the starboard side, against the outside hull.

Just looking at it trying to figure out how the heck I am going to get in there to check levels and service it.

Do you all have the battery banks buried back in there like that?

If I was 110 lbs and 20 years old it wouldn't be an issue LOL.

    Just curious.

Both of my battery banks, port and starboard are in the gen room under the galley. I replaced all eight a few years ago and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

If you are staying with standard flooded lead acid, install a battery watering kit so you don't have to check levels.

I had Flow Rite kits on the house and start batteries on my last boat and they made battery top up a less than 5 minute exercise.

On my earlier 53 the batteries are just outside the inner stringers not against the hull side. Did some relocate them at some point? Lousy location

That sounds like a really good system!
Does it show levels or just fill them?

What system do you need for 12v 8D batteries?

    Hard to tell…

Re: Battery bank location is not favorable.

I installed a watering system in mine about six years ago. To fill all the batteries takes less than three seconds. It’s the best money I have ever spent an easy to install.

    Bob,

The system automatically fills each cell to the right level, no indication or level check required. Each cell has it's own fill cap with an internal float valve. The caps are plumbed in a manifold configuration to a port where you attach a primer bulb style pump with a strainer on the end. You dump the strainer in a gallon of distilled/deionized water and pump away until the pump bulb gets firm, detach the pump and you are done.

    Bob-

This Bob makes flowrite kits for our 32 volt setup. Different batteries have different manifolds. He's retired, but still does these on the side.
