Come June I will have been running this boat for 47 years and 9 sets of Batteries. I’m getting tired of chasing 8 volt batteries. I was looking at the first invoice from Jan 77 Wards charged us $99 ea installed. And Mr Ward himself did a complete electrical and bonding system check to boot. Best price I’ve got on 819’s is 650ea today and Rolls are are well over a thousand. the original owner had the boat delivered to Rybovitch where they did all the outfitting including dry exhaust and second generator. At the time they added 2 8d 12v batteries for the generators and converted most all the 32v stuff and electronics to 12v. The only thing I really have on 32 is the starters and the heads. I got rid of the alternators at least 40 years ago and jumped out the oil pressure switches so the charger handles the 32v underway.
I’m thinking of going 24v I believe the starters can be rewound and I need to ditch the old Charles charger anyway. A couple 24v motors for the heads isn’t a big deal. I believe the cables are way oversized as was typical 60’s engineering.
Any one gone 24v? I could go 36v I don’t think the starters will care about another couple volts but why drag around another 500lbs of batteries?

Re: Battery time again
Call here for Rolls. I think you'll find them cheaper than your 819 quote. And they'll last you for 12-15 years instead of 5 or 6.

Re: Battery time again
Scott, we flipped the 32v stuff over to 24v when we put the CATs in. Think we just exchanged the Galley Maid pumps for 24v ones, had the first issue with one a few years ago, only took like 18 or 19 years for an issue.
