My dad found this while walking in the woods many (30 or more) years ago. Not sure of the age, but obviously very old. It is a very old musket ball that hit a tree. The tree grew a burl around the ball. Eventually the tree died, fell, and decayed. All that was left was the piece here. The ball is actually loose in the burl. I wish I knew the real story behind the shot.

Interesting artifact

Re: Interesting artifact
That is very cool.
Maybe it was somebody target shooting. Maybe it was a revolutionary war battle. Maybe they missed the deer. Or maybe they didn't miss the deer that fed a family, but the ball got lodged in the tree behind the deer.
It's a piece of history. It's a moment of a life. Frozen in time. It's an animated three dimensional photograph.
Maybe it was ordinary, maybe it was frustrating, maybe it founded a nation.
Maybe the mystery is better.
