Thread: Sorta new guy

    Sorta new guy

Actually I have been an official member for a few weeks and a lurker for several months but the news is that i signed an acceptance of my boat today. M/YTempation is a lovely 1992 65ft Motor Yacht currently in Pompano Beach. I am keeping her name partly because she is my Temptation and partly as a gesture of respect to the previous owner who is a member of this forum and had to give her up for health reasons. I will try to keep her in as good or better condition as I am recieving her. Mostly I just wanted to say that I have been reading the forum and going back to previous posts (currently reading threads in Tech Talk from 2018 I think) and have been copying and saving the links to threads of particular interest. There is a TON of experience and expertise on this forum and I intend to make use of all I can as I really need it. New guy to boating (large ones anyway) and today I find myself excited, intimidated and somewhat terrified all at the same time. Thanks in advance for the knowledge, information and recommendations I have already picked up off the forum. This is a priceless resource for me to say the least and thanks for your support even if you didn't know I was getting it!

Congrats! I also bought a nice boat from a member here. Have done the right job to upgrade and maintain. Mechanically we are nearly done. ER housekeeping got a bit behind but floorboards will be out for 2 months after New Years and by March I should be able to post real boat "porn" pictures. Will also be fixing/replacing the one thing on the boat that does not work. The auto pilot. Boatsb (Scott), a member here will provide parts and expertise. You are in the right place.

    Welcome aboard!
Yes this forum is great. It is one of many reasons in our search why we finally focused on the Hatteras brand. We just got our 53my last fall.

I too came from smaller boats, i.e. 18 ft. jet boat, years ago a 26 ft Trojan and last boat was a 24' Pontoon.

I was a bit intimidated, but if you are worried about handling / docking etc. I have found this to be the easiest boat to handle and dock I have ever had. A good day or two with an able captain is recommended though. That helps with the initial jitters and "how to" of handling these beasts.
After that I am confident you will be pleasantly surprised how you can dock these things with much ease and accuracy.

Good luck and thanks for checking in!
