If you are local to the area, it is part of the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville's broadcast on channel 22 local notice to mariners during Right Whale Calving season (Jan-Mar?). Looking for the documents, I did learn this appears to be for the upper half of the FL. Spotting a Right Whale south of Port Canaveral is rare but the Port does abide by the specific Federal conservation laws for right whales'.

It is the same with the manatees. Recreational boats do not do this damage.
I'm sorry when these or any critter is hurt but it is not the family boater causing it.

Well it does look like the whale killed by a Jarrett Bay off st Augustine… it does happen unfortunately but it s too rare to take the drastic action they re about to take

An interesting update on this proposal…make your voices be heard at the link below.

NOAA Proposal Could Devastate Boating Industry
In the hopes of saving a declining population of North Atlantic Right whales, NOAA aims to institute a 10-knot speed limit along much of the Atlantic coast. We cut through the clutter and get to the heart of this matter with this emergency podcast with Viking Director of Government Affairs and Sustainability John DePersenaire.

Brilliant move as usual… slowing ships down will just increase shipping delays and costs.
And you are completely wrong. Ships have been following the 10knot whale zone rules for years. And no, they do not ignore them....well, maybe after mr big dik pilot gets on board lol.

The problem is that they re going to boost enforcement and not just using AIS whcih can be turned off but with patrols. NOAA wind be afraid to fly their planes to catch speeders.
What do you want to bet that the next step will be boats >35ft will be required to have AIS and that it will be required to be on at all times?
