Looks like a very nice boat. The only thing I would say is when I was shopping for my 53 I excluded the 92-engined boats. Everybody said the 71's are a much more forgiving engine. I think 1984 was the last year of the 71's.

Not sure when Hatteras stopped putting them in 53MY’s, but they were built well into the 90’s.

Thanks appreciate your input. Didn't list engine hours either.

The 6v92's replaced the 8v71's mid-year 1985 in the 53's. I see no reason to exclude the 92's. Mine had 5000hrs on them with no issues when I pulled them out for the repower. I prefer the aftercooled engines to the intercooled. You just have to make sure you watch the coolant additives and don't over heat the 92's. And they're much easier and cheaper to overhaul as well; No honing of the cylinders to get the perfect fit for the liners.

I just did the subtraction and it appears I have had 29 flawless years on (my re-engined) 6V-92TA engines at 550 hp. I would disregard any bad second hand reports on them. Once Penske took over everything improved, particularly oil leakage.
