Clorox to water ratios for freshwater tanks...

So I've got serious slime and, as we say down here in Cajun country, grasdu (pronounced "grah-doo") in my freshwater tanks and lines. Particularly now that we're even farther south now, Key West. Got to deal with this stuff, it's about to start crawling out of my tank.

What's the ratio of Clorox to water to shock, and afterward to maintain?

    Check out the above link.

BTW, the short answer is 1/2 gal bleach to 100 gal water to shock. 1/2 cup to 100 g to maintain.

I used to dump a gallon in Gigabite's tank to shock (~160 gals of water)

Run all faucets until the water smells coming out of each. Then turn off the pumps and switches and let it soak overnight.

Come back in the morning and flush the entire system - empty the tank, refill, do it again. Run at least three tanks through.

I didn't do maintenance doses - I don't want to be drinking measurable levels of chlorine. If you're turning over the tank at least once every 3-4 days (and you will be if you're on the boat continually) then there's no problem; if not, you will need to shock every 3-6 months.

Thanks, yall. Genesis, your m.o. sounds much like mine. But I may have let this situation get well out of hand, though. My pump, while new, seems to be having real difficulty pulling water out of the tank. Lots of slime.

Then use two gallons. It won't hurt anything important over 24 hours.

One more question about the slime monster. Where are the possible choke points located that would actually create the crud blockages (starting with the water tanks all the way to the pump)? I just can't get my water pressure to stay up once I begin flushing the lines!

Just the pickup and lines, plus any inline strainers....
