Hello to everyone.
I’m from Italy. I bought a wonderfull Hatteras 70 cockpit two years ago.
I would like to change the bearings shaft and the two headsets.
My problem is to divide the shaft from the gear. The shaft seems glued.
Any suggestion please?

Re: Hatteras 70 cockpit shaft
I'm guessing you are asking about the propeller shaft installed in the gear coupling;
There is a nut on the shaft end like a prop nut, inside of the coupling facing the gear.
Usually a Ny/Lock nut with still a cotter pin.
Then you have to press the shaft out of the coupler.
There is two ways to do this; The right way and the wrong way.
I do recommend you hire a proper tech to pop this.

Re: Hatteras 70 cockpit shaft
Are you asking how to remove the shaft coupling or separate the shaft coupling from the reduction gear? Is there a 2 piece shaft? If so you may not have to pull the shaft.

Re: Hatteras 70 cockpit shaft
Looks like the two couplings have rusted together. You may be able to drive a stiff blade putty knife between the couplings. You may have to loosen the stuffing box to let the shaft move back. If you can get on the shaft coupling with a pipe wrench sometimes just turning the shaft will cause it to break the couplings loose.

Re: Hatteras 70 cockpit shaft
What ever tool you use to get the coupler off of the flange, ensure the gouges are cleaned up properly with a file.
With out the rite tools and experience, you may end up doing more damage than good.
I do advise you find a proper tech.
