    Bridge Deck Core

Does anyone know if the edges (curved edge, see image) of the bridge deck are cored or solid fiberglass? 53MY

Thanks. Can you share how you went about the repair? How did you fill/shape the core, etc.

    Re: Bridge Deck Core

I started by drilling 2 4inch holes in the underside of the deck but then realized that a lot of the core was bad so I had to take off a big section of the top, dug out all the wet core, replaced with form coreing glassed over the top and applied new paint and non skid. It is a big job

for the curved section i cleaned out the old core and used 2 part expanding foam, use the most dense that you can find. i think i used 4 lb foam

Interesting. The force of the expanding foam was not enough to deform the fiberglass?

The thickness of the glass on top and bottom are very strong. However you should drill numerous holes for excess expansion. If you inject to much it has an exit location.

i drilled 2 inch holes to clean out and re foam from, no deformation of the glass. all of the excess foam came up through the filll hole. i let it set then cut the excess off with a hacksaw blade, used a router to cut the foam down to the original height and glassed the hole in
