Thread: 53MY Tender

    53MY Tender

I am looking for a new tender. What size Whaler came on the boat originally a 9 or 10 ft? Mine is a 1981 Hatteras 53ft. Any recommendations or alternatives? I don't want it hanging over the sides or looking to large proportionately for the boat.

    Thanks,

    Mark

13 is typical the other is 11’ but too small to be practical

    On my 53 MY,
    I have a 11' Boston Whaler.
    It works out perfect.
Don't think I would want anything longer.
Maybe if you are going with an inflatable or semi-ridged you could go longer?

I have a 10’6” inflatable Apex center driving station with a hard bottom. Lighter weight and very safe. Love it.

The 13 works on an 18'2" beam Hatt, but for a 15'10", the 11 is best.

I have a Zodiac 340, 11.5', with a 40 Yamaha. Pros, comfortable, will plane with 4 adults,10 gallons fuel, the tube can be changed in 30 minutes, buy me no glue needed

Cons, tube only last 10 or 11 years it is PVC, it is 700 #s with the engine

    Hope this helps.

    Re: 53MY Tender

We had a 13 foot AB with a 40HP ETec on the back of Freedom and it stuck out on both sides LOL. However, for getting around in the Bahamas it was great. A Whaler at that size would have been a very rough ride given the flat bottom.
Freedom had at best a 14 foot beam for what that is worth.

    Re: 53MY Tender

Another consideration is the weight of the dingy. What is the lifting capacity of the davit?
on my 53’ I tried to lift a 400 Zodic that weighted towards750 lbs . I thought I could feel the arm flexing so I got one that weighs just over 400.
