Boat History, trying to find it!

I filed for an abstract of title for our new to us 1980 53 MY

It only goes back to 1992 with a registration in the Republic De Panama.

Is there any way to go back further?

I was told an interesting story on the boat....

"Supposedly" it was purchased by a Prince somewhere in the middle east. He had hired an American engineer to work on the electrical grid system in his country and liked the work he did so much that he gifted the boat to this engineer.

Tall tale? Perhaps. But I would like to find out how to dig back further.
The fact that it was registered as far away as the Republic De Panama might lend some credibility to the story and it would be fun to verify all this as it would be a fun story and add some character to the boat.

Any suggestions on how to research this further?

You might want to search the vessel documentation center by Hull ID # instead of Official Number. The Hull ID# will never change, however an ON might change if the boat left US registry and a new ON was applied for. If there is an older ON, then you'd simply request an abstract for that ON as well. Good luck

Good idea. However, many records don't include the Hull# and are inconsistent in their information. OP, what is the USCG documentation #? That will indicate whether it is a 1980 or a 1992 number.

would anyone know how to search the Saudi Arabian registration number?
I looked and couldn't find anything. I am assuming the US coast guard would have nothing to do with that.
