Those engines meet Tier 3 emissions.

Just pray they never make pleasure craft meet Tier 4. Then you get to deal with particulate filters and DEF fluid.

Tier 4 was supposed to kick in for new boats over about 90’ but the USCG has delayed enforcement since t
It was nearly impossible to fit the tanks and system in boats under 120’.

The C8.7 and C12.9 are FPT engines marinized and hopped up by Caterpillar. The same engine in a New Holland tractor is only 328hp.

Omg, C12.9, C7.1, C8.7 are rebranded FPT engines with some CAT modifications sold and serviced thru the CAT dealer network.
CAT C18, C32 and C32B are the current Caterpillar manufactured Tier 3 available engines.

Some of the older CAT non Tier 3 engines may be available for certain situations/installs.

Btw, my CAT mechanic is telling me C12.9 is now good to go, CAT apparently has addressed all the early issues.
Didn't get any info on the smaller engines.

Sky, did you look at thinwall cutlass bearings? You might not have to replace the struts if you used those...maybe.

Not possible. Had to make new struts.
