It was ok up to a couple of years ago. In the last two years it has become crazy. Been here for 30 years and there are places we used to anchor that are now too dangerous. Dangerous as in people dying... nowadays we avoid going out on week ends with our own boats or if we do we head south into Biscayne national park where jet skis can’t be use and all the ghetto charters do not go.

We moved out in 2014 (after loving it since 1959) when the boat sound systems blasting techno “music” at 5am as the partiers were returning home became “less amusing”, Once you’ve seen 20 silicon naked dancing babes, you’ve seen them all. We lived on Arch Creek, next to the Haulover sandbar. Ironically the water police always were off the water hours before sunset when ‘the fun’ was just starting. Lived on Hibiscus Island before that, and at least they went by fast.

Noticed similar problem with novices and drunkenness on Western Long Island Sound, especially past 3 years. Much like Jones Beach, it's getting near impossible to escape the blaring Latino music. The inconsiderate and dangerous crap you pretty much have to expect to happen at local day anchorages makes you think twice before leaving the dock.

In California the Coast Guard and Sheriff Department keep this some what under control. However with all the cut backs there are fewer of them on the waters. I try to stay off the waters on weekends especially holiday weekends. Good luck and stay safe.

Maine while cold would be a good place for you to cruise this summer. You only need to worry about running over lobster pots.

You forgot the damn fog!!! Makes the pits hard to spot. Sorry. But we’re 200bm from the best unspoiled cruising grounds this doomed planet has to offer. Maine waters are way to cold!!!
