110-120 volt 50 Amp plug conversion to 30 amp?

Has anyone converted their 50 amp 110v shore power to 30 amp? I always use 50 amp 220 volt, during stops. I have never seen a 110v 50 amp shore power outlet in the great lakes. Was wondering if carrying a large cord with reducer to 30 amp is worth it. Seems like I should replace the inlet on the boat to 30 amp, 110v, and get a lighter 30 amp cord(s). Thoughts? You may never find 120Vac/50A receptacles on a newer dock. 120Vac/30A or 120-240Vac/50A is the new standard.
Usually you convert to a 120/240/50A plug end to plug into the later dock services.
If you go the 30A route, the dock breaker may end up tripping a lot.

A single 30 amp isn’t going to get you much power on board... I don’t think I ve ever seen a marina with 120/50 service on the east coast, Bahamas or Gulf

I have been on crappy docks without 120-240/50 and only a pair of 120/30. In that case a reverse Y allows you to hook up your 120-240/50 to twin 120/30 as long as they are on opposing phases. They have circuitry which only allows power to flow of the hots are on opposing phases. You will still need to juggle breakers to keep it under 2 x 30 but it s better than nothing

If you have 2 50-125 connections on board you can put 50-123 FM ends on a 30 amp wire. That will give you the availability to yse 2 30s, i know it is less desirable but it works.

Using a 30 amp male on a 50 amp wire will not work due to the added size of the 50 amp wire.

I also have 2, 50 amp FM X 20 amp male 1 foot long for winter layup when I an upland, like this year. When upland for winter I never seem to near power.

When I run off of one 30amp shore connection, I use a 50a/120 to 30a/120 adapter at the boat. Then run a 30a shore cord from there to the pedestal. No need to change the receptacle on the boat.
