Powercool 3000 vs Pencool 3000 what should we use?

Not sure who "they" are?
A real Detroit shop or Discount Auto Parts?
The small Power Cool bottle is the Detroit additive you would ad to the system when the test strips guide you to ad some.
The others I know nothing about.
When in doubt; keep with the factory products.

No auto parts people we have learned you have to say marine for everything......marine mechanical services dude told us to put powercool not pencool. Guy at Captains Locker store says he puts the pencool in hits engine same as ours....So we should put powercool 3000 and distilled water or just regular water in? And use the pencool like you said as an additive when needed using those strips?

Always use distilled water, never use tap water to many mineral's in the water quick you will need to change coolant sooner every 2 to 3 yrs verse 5 yrs or longer up to 10 depending on coolant used.

Distilled water is a MUST. Only use tap water in an emergency.
As a possible alternative, you can use Fleet Charge SCA Precharged Coolant/Antifreeze and it meets / exceed DD specifications. Below is a link to the data sheet. It is ready stocked at NAPA or easily ordered.

Re: Powercool 3000 vs Pencool 3000 what should we use?
As per David's post, I used 32 gallons of pre-mixed PEAKS fleet charged this summer, after talking with the local & regional DD/MTU mechanics. Fleet charge meets or exceeds every aspect of the OEM DD ELC
(extended life coolant). I found mine at Menards of all places.... for half the price!

Re: Powercool 3000 vs Pencool 3000 what should we use?
Depending on the vintage of a Hatt, the Powercool and additive is mandatory/highly recommended.
This is because certain of the Detroit Diesels were subject to a special form of cavitation related to high frequency engine vibrations. This cavitation degraded the kit liners.
So, when in doubt, always use Powercool- it prevents the destructive bubbles and cavitation. That and it comes premixed so reduces risk of whether the correct plain water is added- none is needed.50 Years on the Great Lakes...
