Has any one heard of the Isotta Fraschini VD800/1800 diesel engine (1600 hp)

Just curious there is a boat we may be interested in that has a pair of them.
    Thanks!

Italian luxury car manufacturer founded in 1900......

I would make sure parts are readily available.

There were quite a few sportfish repowers done in Delaware/Maryland awhile back with those things, don't think they worked out for anyone. What I remember is they made tons of HP, leaked oil worse than a 2 stroke DD. What I don't remember is if they were reliable, bu I doubt it. .

After the Italian diesels came the Korean MANs, can't remember what they're called, recollection is they were okay.

I found their website, I guess a good test is to email them and ask about their engines.

There motto plastered all over the website is "customer satisfaction" so I will email and see if they can provide some fuel consumption spec's etc. Should be a good test of "customer satisfaction"!

Sometimes it hard to get parts for current mainstream marine diesel engines. Is Alitalia still flying??

After they peed away all the money Etihad dumped in to them they were re-nationalized by the Italian government last March so as not to leave the country without an airline as Italy Air, in spite of investment by Qatar, has stopped flying.

Damn shame to see two out of the ME3 lose money here. Not.
