    28' Hatteras speed

    hello

i tried to get the real speed from other 28" early hatteras owners and was unable. For anyone interested that has one, i just did a total refit and repower of my 28' with a pair of volvo penta d3-110 engines (110 hp at 3000 rpm) and added a northern lights 6kw gen set as well as did a bottom soda blast and barrier coat and got 23 knots with those little engines. fuel burn at wot was 5.9 per engine. what a great stable dry boat that hull is. i have a soft top and removed the 2 ton hard top. i am so pleased with the performance with the little engines. the boat pushes easy. soda blast and barrier coat is a good thing and will add speed to any boat that has lots of paint on her. what a great boat. i cant wait to throw more money at it and keep making it MO BETTAH which is the name on the stern

Nice! My 34C is considered underpowered with 270HP engines but it performs great. Torque is king. Enjoy the ride and adventure.

I pulled kids on tube with my 34 years ago. Probably looked weird but the kids had fun.

well i repowered my 28" 1966 hatteras with a pair of 110 HP D3-110i-C VOLVO PENTA COMMON RAIL DIESELS. WITH 1/4 TANK OF FUEL AND 1/4 TANK OF WATER SHE DID 25 KNOTS. BUT FULL OF FUEL AND WATER SHE DID 22KNOTS MAX AT 3000 RPM. WHAT A NICE DRY BOAT AND STABLE BECAUSE OF THE 12' BEAM. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE OLD GIRL. HAD TO DO EVERYTHING TO IT. NEW WIRES, generator, ENGINES, PAINT, AND NEW HEAD WITH GRAY AND BLACK WATER TANKS. GREAT BOAT. I RUN AT 1600 RPM AND CRUISE AT 9 KNOTS AND BURN TOTAL OS 2 GALLONS AN HOUR.

    a boat worth fixing up.

    pat
