Call them. They have a lot of the information on the old boats.

    Re: Passenger Rated Capacity

I could be wrong but I don’t think larger recreational boats have a passenger capacity. If you re thinking about going commercial then it’s up to the USCG. I ve seen 53MYs inspected first up to 49 pax. Requires quite a few modifications though

i dont think there is a capacity for recreational use, 6 passengers on for hire trips and i have heard up to 49 on inspected vessels but as mentioned above it is cost prohibitive

The actual weight and person capacity ratings by either the Coast Guard or ABYC are for boats under 26 feet. John

    Re: Passenger Rated Capacity

My 58’ MY was 49-pax USCG-inspected when I bought her. I know the guy who did the refit. He said it cost around $200,000 to make all the modifications. I would never bite off on that for one of these old boats. In fact, I did not renew the certification because I never wanted more than 12 people on my boat anyway. Also, some of the modifications that had to be made in the engine room to pass inspection were down right dangerous in my opinion. In order to get at the hose clamp on the shaft, I had to spend a day disassembling all the sheet metal that lined the engine room walls. I only did that once, and when I changed the broken clamp, I tossed all that sheet metal and rock wool in the nearest dumpster.

What about life rafts for that many people? Or is that not a requirement?

    Re: Passenger Rated Capacity

Life rafts are not required on recreational vessels

For inspected passenger vessels they are required with fairly complex regulations based on distance to shore and even hull material. They don’t have to be fancy inflatables, in some case large floats are acceptable. It s all in the headache inducing CFRs
