Thread: New noise......

    Re: New noise......

I was talking to a diesel mechanic friend of mine today about the noise that you were experiencing. The first thing out of his mouth was did he check the oil pressure to make sure that it is correct and that he has enough oil in the motor. I started to chuckle but he said he was dead serious. So you might wanna check that out.

Oil levels get checked every time I start the engines. And oil pressures are normally OK. Didn't check them running before the waves, but it was OK this morning too.

A lot of times those OP gauges have accuracy issues.

Wouldn't a lack of oil pressure be heard in the engine room?

Well, I have a hard time hearing the pressure differentials these days with my bad hearing. So I figured a way to monitor the oil pressure. Trouble is, I’m can’t figure out why to top filter shows so much more pressure.

Pressure can be regulated with medication and diet.

I had a loose shaft zinc that made an intermittent noise matching your description. Loud in the aft stateroom and then would disappear.
