Thread: Shower Sumps

    Shower Sumps

Is there a better mouse trap? The tubs with water always sitting in it are just not my favorite. They get grungy. Yes, I clean them, it's a good reason to go under there and keep an eye on things but I'm wondering if there's a more elegant solution.....

When used and the showers properly cleaned they don't get funky and smell. Its when they sit with build up that cases the funk and smell.

The issue is trying to pump that last bit "up" a hose.

You can also use the manual switch to overide the float switch. This will pump out another inch or so of water.

My 46 Matthews had a diaphram pump plumbed direct to the shower drain. Made a noise when no water was present but you never forgot to turn it off when you were done!

I've been cutting them in 4's. Not sure whether they would create a corrosive environment....

    Re: Shower Sumps

They work fine for me being on boat at least every weekend. Ive poured pine sol down each sink prior to leaving, which worked fine as long as you like the disinfectant smell. Issues always were AC evaporator drains plugging so now using Nu Calgon pan tablets in HVAC drip trays, seems to work but jury is still out.
I once toyed with idea of small grey water tank but could not justify the benefit.

plumb one of these in line and forget the sump. This is how it was done on my dad's 49 Gulfstar.
