Cutting some plywood to make the 3 sides of the box ( the bulkhead is the forward side) to contain the new unit was the only tricky part. I blocked off the old supply part of the grill and redirected with a Y to 2 4 inch ducks cut into the wall. Much better air distribution. Water supply from engine room below was straight forward and the existing wiring worked fine.

The 16K unit is not shown in the photo. It was installed on the shelf with the Y attached directly on top of its fan output.

I just saw this. I don't know if there was an ice maker or not, but it's the same cabinet. It's a 12k BTU Marine Air and I think it probably could use a 16k BTU, and now this thread has got me thinking about installing it in the side wall and eliminating this cabinet altogether, which I would like.

I installed a Dometic ECD 16K about 5 yrs. ago.
22 inches wide and 11 1/4 deep. I am sure other units will fit as well.

mine is behind the stb wall, which looks like where robs is, and it is a 16k.
it services the galley and saloon.
another 16k split services the v-bunk and aft cabin.
im in ny and the 16 has to work hard sometimes because of all the windows.
i think a 12 in my situation would be underpowered.
