I accidentally left the windlass breaker engaged after the last trip. A week later the foot pedal shorted after a rain and the windlass engaged pulling the chain fully in and then it spun freely.
After replacing the footpad switch, the windlass let out chain and then retrieved all but the last ten feet. It now will not engage and the solenoid cuts out when the footpads are energized and engaged..
I am out of town and repeating this second hand from the guy who looks after it. Any suggestions on how to proceed with trouble shooting this are appreciated.

Re: Galleymade Windlass Trouble Shoot Question
test for voltage at the solenoids. If okay, then test at the motor.

Re: Galleymade Windlass Trouble Shoot Question
Is the solenoid engaged when the pedals are not pressed? If so this shouldn't be. It should cut out when the pedal is released. Are you sure you have a normally open switch and not a normally closed one?
