How many have replaced their engine driven air pump with an electric compressor? I've heard if the pump fails the engine can be damaged...?
Is this true?
I still need compressed air for the windshield washers and horns, and secondarily for recharging the H20 accumulator and steering fluid reservoir.

Re: DD871TI air pump
Every truck ever built with air brakes has one of those compressors on it. They won't wreck the engine, but they do take a minimal amount of hp to run. So, many have removed them and replaced with an electric compressor. If its working, I'd leave it alone.

Re: DD871TI air pump
I just removed mine, amazingly simple to do, however there are water and oil hoses that have to be capped off and you have to get the plate that covers the hole on the engine. I am putting my pump for my stabilizers where the compressor pump was, in fact I will have a spare compressor pump soon if anyone needed one. John
