Phasor 20KVA Genset Heat Exchanger Endcap

The stainless bolt head that holds the end cap to the heat exchanger fell off through corrosion and water was leaking out. New 5/16" bolt purchased and some stainless washers.

How do I seal the bolt itself from leaking? Any previous washer/seal also appears to have deteriorated. Is there an internal gasket / rubber washer? Or can I temporarily resolve with some silicon at bolt head? I cannot find a parts diagram to show me. No Phasor parts in Australia.

We are living/isolating on boat at the moment so need to quickly resolve.

Try a rubber washer or oring on the bolt. RTV on the seal surface.

    RTV is our friend.
Easy to clean up if another plan comes together.

Yes, now cobbled together with silicone around the bolt and washer head.

Seems to be working OK. No drips. The real issue is the sound shield which hides all the problems. Its removed now, perhaps a little noisier.

Just lucky I happened to be in genset room as there was 4" of water in the genset bilge.

I'll get in touch with Phasor.

I just purchased some Loctite 483630 592 Thread Sealant to try on my heat exchanger bolts where they appear to be seeping from the bolt. I don't know how effective it will be yet.

Silicone offers no adhesion, Unless under compression, it will fail. Better RTV or Loctite will do a much better job to trust.

I'd not heard of term RTV so have looked it up... its a "silicon adhesive" which is what I used and the common term over here. No leaks and bolt head set solid. Batteries full. Day 5 of isolation for us.

    "silicon adhesive"
It's the adhesive part that is important.
Lots of silicone does not stick to much, especially under a screw head.
