8v92ta - reading tach from original alternator?

Hi, I have a 89 54MY with 8v92ta's with a Glendinning synchroniser. Last year I purchased new tach cable for The Glendinning on port engine, but it broke after some 50 hours after the Glendinning tried to engage. I don't know what is wrong with the Glendinning, but I know I want to know the RPM's. So can I use the alternators to provide the output to the same gauges?

Are you sure the cable is broken? I think the glendinning has 'ears' that receive the cable drive, I think those are always suspect when having tach issues. Maybe one of the ears broke off and the new cable is fine?

The kids at Glendinning can make and have a new cable in your hands in a couple of days.
They can help figure out what happened to your original cables.
This sounds like a better fix.
Now, If you just want a tach signal from your alternator, we need to know what alternator you have first.

You can take the tach generator and put it directly on the engine where the cable leads from. That’s where it would be originally. Then route the tach wires directly there. Forgot about a alternator run tachometer. There grossly inaccurate.

Thanks for the input! I'll check with Glendinning 👍
