Well, 17 year old heat exchanger on my norpro 18 popped a leak Norpro is out of business so I m looking at options.
Original Norpro design has built in welded expansion tank above the HE. Thinking about using a generic HE like those found on NL, Ohno etc with an external plastic recovery tank
Any reason why that wouldn’t work? Not sure what the benefit of that integral expansion tank is

Re: Genset heat exchanger replacement
Off the shelf heat exchanger should work fine. The expansion tank will need to be something that can handle the pressure. Plastic tanks are just overflow bottles. You need to have a pressure cap in that system somewhere.

Re: Genset heat exchanger replacement
Call Lenco up on Long Island, great people to work with, they built us some custom combo gear and steering coolers last year. Have used them many times over the last 30 years.

Re: Genset heat exchanger replacement
Lenco is a great family company and does great work.
As to redesigning the cooling system I'd not consider it.
Ship the cooler to them and they will get you a great replacement in return
Dont go cheap. They build all kinds of products and cost will be the determining factor for quality.Scott

Hey Pascal
We've distributed Lenco Coolers in Australia this past 15 years. They are a great company.

One of the coolers on Lenco's home page looks exactly like the one Pascal posted. Heck, if you call them, they may have what you want in stock and ready to go.

Re: Genset heat exchanger replacement
Have you tried contacting Sen-Dure in Ft. Lauderdale?

Re: Genset heat exchanger replacement
Thanks guys. I got a reasonable quote from Sound Marine Diesel who used to be a dealer for Norpro. $700 for the same HE, made by Lenco
I had also contacted lenco but no answer yetPascal
