Here's the dope from the folks that know.

I queried a retired harbor pilot buddy here in Charleston about the Golden Ray debacle out of Brunswick. My buddy's son is a current Charleston pilot. Here's what I received:
Ship was not ballisted properly causing major stability problems with righting moment and insufficient GM.....At critical list during a 35 degree turn angle cargo lashings on autos failed and all cars went to one side...no recovery possible..
Entire mess is in Captain's lap...
The pilot was one of Dan's school mates from KP with a sterling rep as a pilot..gotta find out if he got his shoes wet. Lol
The four missing crew members were cut out of hull by USCG alive ..prob some civilian actually did the cutting..lol


Here's the 35 degree turn and about where she ended up. Don't know if pilot put her on the shoal or the thing just got over there. Could have been way worse to port--lots deeper had she had gone over there.
