    Old iron is out!!!!!!!

Things are getting serious Now!!!!! Well after a year of stressing and planning it was finally time to make the leap. Out with the old! The fit was tight on the oil pan so I made a detailed template to check. 1.5" clearance on the outboard oil pan. I would have liked more but that's ok. Now lots of cleaning and scrubbing while I wait for the new iron. I'm committed now or is that I should be committed now. I guess either one works! Going to be posting the old 12v71N cores and transmission also complete Hynautic control systems if any interIMG_20190819_092523171_HDR.jpgIMG_20190819_150708288.jpgIMG_20190819_120627377.jpgest.

Nice to be able to get the crane in. When we pulled the 8V71s from my 53 MY we had to use A frames and a rail to bring them to the aft deck!

    Re: Old iron is out!!!!!!!

Maybe I mispoke. This is more of a rebuild, refit, and repower all combined. She's stripped down to basically the structure now. Will be repowered and then the comestic fun begins. I'm bucking the trend a bit on the repower and going with 13.5 liter John Deere marine engines. Can't find another 53C done with Deere but did find some motor yachts and a old article on a pair of 46Cs with the 12.5 liter Deeres. All the owners of Deere engines I've spoken with seem to love them. I know Cat and Cummins would have done the job but I wanted big displacement low HP. Time will tell if that was a good decision.

Never can go wrong with JD engines and equipment. Looks like the specs on your JD's are similar to the CAT C15 with much more displacement than the QSM11.
Don't forget we like lots and lots of photos, enjoy the project.
