Wonder where this boat picked up it's cargo of Chinese? It's not like there's many of them hanging off the coast of Ft Lauderdale.
I'm actually surprised they got caught.
I just passed thru those waters last weekend coming from Bahamas. Passed within visual range of 2 CG cutters. They couldnotcare less about me in a vintage MY. They did however radio 2 center consoles and put them thru the ringer.

Probably transferred offshore from a ship or maybe they came thru the Bahamas. China has a increasingly large influence in the Bahamas with construction projects and fishing.
We ve been hailed many times by USCG cutters returning thru the stream. They usually ask the documentation number, number of pax, nationality, port of departure and destination, etc. sometimes they follow half a mile behind for a while.Pascal

I wonder if you run AIS, if you are less likely to be checked on by the USCG? Assuming you are not breaking any laws

Maybe... we go to the Bahamas 10 to 15 times a year and I may have gotten fewer calls from the USCG aince havjng AIS. A few months ago they did call me asking for information and tailed us while they were checking us out.
I guess now that they ve stopped a MY with migrants they will be even more vigilant, especially older boats like oursPascal

I must have looked suspicious to them last weekend ... or maybe it was "End of the Line" they were after
