After sales tax and install 118 K will go up to 160-180, maybe higher if the new engines won’t fit through the doorway. You could get a donor block and major both for less than half I would think. These have 650 hp now . I run at just under 1800 RPM and maintain 20kts. Have heard/read that a lot will cruise at 1950 but I don’t know what speed and engine life you would get. With the old school Detroit’s you will have zero electronic issues.
Your call on wants and needs. Either way you have a major project and will end up with a clean new engine room.

Re: 83 46 hp repower
When we did our repower in 2001 Gregory Poole was by far the easiest to deal with. Very simple and also helpful to figure out everything we needed, including the custom mounts which were great, and the best pricing. They want the business, the other CAT distributors acted like they were doing us a favor.
