I'm heading back to Tampa from the Keys next week when the commercial traps will be out. I'm would like to go far enough offshore to minimize my interaction with them especially at night.
What depth are they trying to keep their traps?
I realize there are always strays but if I don't need to go, where they gotta be, life will be easier.

Good thinking Bruce. Years ago I made the mistake of running at night through a pot field and it was
a mess. Better to plan ahead.... Good Luck

You guys have shallow crabs back there on the west coast we see lots of pots out to 200 feet. John

We went early June from Marco to Key West. They were everywhere and scattered. Had to constantly look out and we were in 3s with some 4s thrown in so it was a pain. Then on the 18th we ran from Marathon to Marco coast and didn't see many at all. Just lots of seaweed patches to try and avoid.
