    Hatteras schematics

    We all have access to the full boat schematics that either came with the boats, or can get from Sams. Unless I am missing it, the 2 schematics not included that would be helpful for DIY items, is one that shows pass throughs, or access to connections, from the salon up to the flybridge, and from the engine room forward to the rest of the boat. I have schematics of the full salon level, stateroom level, inside the engine room, basic flybridge. But nothing that shows access to the connection areas. For example, if I want to run wires up to the bridge, i would have to take the headliner down, then try and figure it out. If I want to run some 12v wires from the engine room to forward bilge areas, there's nothing to show how to access the pass throughs you can see in the engine room. I just found that odd compared to how much detail is on the rest of the boat.

    An old boat ought to have plenty of abandoned wires just waiting to escort the new ones thru. Maybe?

    That is for sure possible. One thing I have noticed though is the ones that do go, let's say, from the flybridge down to salon are bundled so tightly together, and bunched so tight in the pass through, cutting all ties could open up pandoras box. If I can get to these areas, and see whats on the other side, I might not have to do so.

    Word of the day: Lubricant.

    I've had that problem as well. Cutting the visible ties shouldn't cause problems. Any spreading out on an end and a little grease can work miracles. Every now and then on Aslan, my fish tape will derail into the salon electrical cabinet on the way south. I think killing the power on a run like that might put you to the head of the class.

    We did this and removed more than enough old unconnected wires to have plenty room for new wires.

    So, Open Pandoras box?? Or what new wires do you need to run??
    Unless you going to run a windlass on the bridge, many existing heavy gauge wires are already run.

    Each of our used boats are different, and have all had PO's add all sorts of stuff. I am going to work on removing extra wires running up to the bridge, and then have room if needed. What really made me start the post, was I am adding my own dry bilge system, and want to run 12v power up to my forward bilge holds. I can see a pass through on the side of forward engine bulkead, but there is no way to get to it from the other side. I have opened all access hatches I can find and can't get to it. There are 24v bilge relay boxes in the forward compartments, so possible to tap in there. I am also running hdmi cables from the equipment compartment at the stairs to the salon, and other areas, but can't get to the other side of the pass through from that location. Hence the need for more information from the builder. Obviously, there are ways to do it, I was just commenting that it would be nice to see all wire runs which could help access.

    Just make sure when your pulling old wires out to tie on a heavy string or use mule tape so you have something ready for future use.
