The PO apparently put this hinged step leading to the Vee berth area. It is a great little storage spot. I'm wondering if anyone has done the same thing with the two steps leading aft from the galley down engine rooms/state rooms. Seems like a great place to store canned goods or tools. I'm just not sure if there is anything beneath those two steps (cables, fuel lines,...)

Re: Storage under steps
I think it came that way from the factory as my 63' has it too.

Re: Storage under steps
Mine doesn’t have it, the step is fixed
Years ago I removed the carpet on the stairs going down to the galley and built new ones with mahogany. I made them removable and got a lot of storage underneathPascal

Re: Storage under steps
I'm considering doing the same thing to the two steps leading aft from the galley. Wondering if there is anything under there I may "disturb".

Re: Storage under steps
My 55C has it with 3 steps as well. Looks to be factory but if not whoever did it matched everything perfectly

Re: Storage under steps
Mine has it; the steps are removable as a unit. I Used SS hooks, like you do for cabinet doors, to secure them in place. I also replaced the steps, which were originally pieces of thick plywood, with solid steps made from afromosia. A local wood place had ONE board of it and I grabbed it. Very happy with how it looks now.
