    Small helm window leak

In the corner of my curved port helm window I have a very minor leak when the rain is pouring and the wind is howling. I might get two to three drops but it is there and apparently was there when the PO had the boat as some of the teak is discolored. It looks like the black butyl came off of the edge. I was going to patch it with some black butyl tape but wanted some opinions before I gave it a touch up. I know the best way is to remove the window and reseal. Just looking for other options besides using 5200 or liquid rubber. Thx

Thumbs up Re: Small helm window leak

I’ve used Sika flex to seal mine. It comes in a caulking tube, if you go that way seal up the tube with tape at the end to prevent the caulking from drying up inside. It’s meant for exterior joints and flexes more the 500%

This is the best stuff for small to medium leaks.

Works well for other areas as well. I have frameless windows, and make it a point to use some of Capt. Tolley's around the edges once a year. It takes care of sealant shrinkage or uneven applications. You keep a bottle of this aboard and you'll thank me.
