Has anyone made that trip and if so what is the best route with fuel/marinas to stop in. Time of year best for the trip...etc

It s easier coming back as the prevailing snare at your back. Your stops will be Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Turks n Caicos and Bahamas. All depends on the boat and range.
April they July are the best months. Late July into aug and sept, hurricane season gets in the way. Winter has stronger windsPascal

Sportfish with a range of 330 miles fast cruise or 575 miles at hull speed.

If you have to ask the question(s) you may want to consider bringing someone who's been there done that, a bunch of times...... Trial and error can get pretty costly if not painful.
