Perko cork gaskets don't fit on water strainer lid model 858e

So it was time to replace my cork gaskets on my engine raw water strainers. I've bought 3 different sets of Perko cork gaskets and I can't get them to fit. I'm thinking I must of bought the wrong set but when I look it up online it is the correct match. I was thinking of just making a red silicone gasket with PermaTek but I'm not sure if thats a good idea. Any suggestions? I've never had Perko gaskets give me a problem in the past. I'm using part number from Perko 0493DP999M

Go to your local chandlery, auto parts store, or industrial supplier and buy rubberized cork gasket material in a roll.
Cut out whatever gaskets you want with scissors or a razor blade for cheap. Keep the roll and scissors on board and you can make whatever you need wherever you are.
The dedicated gaskets for sea strainer are a rip off.

Or, if you want to do it right, buy fabric reinforced Viton sheet.

Stay away from silicone rubber as it creeps out of the joint when you get overzealous tightening the bolts.

Coat inner diameter of lid with lipstick (preferably your wife's) and press down firmly on the gasket material for an easy pattern for the hard part.

Thanks for the tips! No wife on board so I'm going to have to find a local harlot to let me borrow some of hers for making gaskets.

X2. That's what I do, but I used the red rubber gasket material. I always keep some aboard.

Robert, truly there is nothing that you do not have an ingenious solution for. I remain in awe.

Now that you have shown it you need to get one as a Christmas gift for all of us Robert.
