    Tried it again and its running fine. Apparently you have to hold the start switch a little longer. Tricky to let go before the flywheel gears grind on the starter.

    Easy fix . Yes it needs oil pressure to build up before you release the switch. Some generators use a switch can hold after releasing the starter while press build. Others like Norpro use a timer which bypassnthe safeties for like 5 seconds
